Relay is a universal TV remote app for Android. It runs entirely on your phone — there is no account, no login, and no server that stores your data. This policy explains the only pieces of information Relay handles, what leaves your device, and how you can reset or delete everything.
The short version
- We collect no personal information. No name, no email, no phone number.
- There is no account. You never sign in. Nothing you do inside Relay is tied to an identity we can look up.
- Your paired TVs, watch history, and preferences stay on your phone — stored in the app's local database, never transmitted to us.
- The free tier shows ads served by Google's AdMob. AdMob collects your advertising ID and coarse-location signals to serve ads. That is the only third party Relay sends data to.
- Premium users see no ads. After a one-time in-app purchase, ad requests stop, and no advertising data is collected.
- You can reset advertising data at any time from your Android settings, and you can delete every trace of Relay by uninstalling the app.
What we collect and why
On-device only (never sent to us or any third party)
The following data is stored locally in Relay's app-private database on your phone and never transmitted to a server:
- Paired TV list — brand, name, LAN IP address, and any pairing credentials (Samsung/LG token, Sony PSK, Vizio auth token, Android TV client certificate) issued by your TV when you first paired it.
- Watch history — YouTube video IDs and thumbnails you've launched via Relay, so the "Jump Back In" row works.
- Share-sheet inbox — YouTube links you shared to Relay from other apps.
- App preferences — active TV, theme choice, whether Premium is unlocked.
These live in Android's app-private storage. Other apps cannot read them. Uninstalling Relay deletes all of them irreversibly.
Collected by Google via AdMob (free tier only)
The free tier displays ads served by Google's AdMob network. AdMob is a Google product; Relay does not receive or store this data itself. AdMob collects, on Google's own servers:
- Advertising ID (a resettable per-device identifier Android provides to ad networks) — used for ad personalization and frequency capping.
- Approximate location — derived from your IP address; used for geo-targeting ads.
- Device information — device model, Android version, screen size, language, timezone — standard for any ad request.
- Ad interaction events — impressions, clicks, conversions.
Google's use of this data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy. For users in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland, Relay uses Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) to collect GDPR consent before any ad request fires; you can withdraw or change consent at any time via the in-app "Privacy options" entry in Settings (visible when required by your region).
Not collected
Relay does not:
- Ask for or send your name, email, or phone number.
- Access your contacts, calendar, photos, or files.
- Track your location beyond what your IP address tells any web request.
- Sell any data to anyone.
- Use analytics, crash reporting, or fingerprinting (at the time of writing — if this changes we will update this policy and disclose it in the app's Data Safety declaration on Google Play).
Third parties
The only third party involved is Google AdMob, and only on the free ad-supported tier. When you buy Premium, ads stop and no advertising data is sent from your device.
Purchases are processed by Google Play Billing — Google receives your payment information under Google Play's own terms; Relay never sees your card details.
Permissions Relay requests
Relay uses only the permissions its features require:
- Local network / Wi-Fi state — to discover TVs on your Wi-Fi. Never leaves your phone.
- Advertising ID (free tier only) — used by AdMob as described above.
Retention
- On-device data — kept as long as Relay is installed. Deleted the moment you uninstall.
- Advertising data — governed by Google's retention policy, not Relay's. Google typically retains ad interaction events for up to 14 months.
- Purchase records — held by Google Play indefinitely per applicable tax law (typically 7 years). These live in your Google account, not in Relay.
Your rights
- Reset advertising data: Android Settings → Privacy → Ads → Delete advertising ID (Android 12+) or Reset advertising ID (older). This severs Relay's free tier from any past advertising signals.
- Change GDPR consent (EEA/UK/Switzerland only): open Relay → Settings → Privacy options.
- Delete everything on-device: uninstall Relay. All paired TVs, watch history, preferences, and Premium entitlement (cached copy) are wiped.
- Access, portability, correction: Relay stores no data on any server, so there is nothing centrally to request. Your on-device data is inspectable via Android's own file access tools if you enable debugging; the paired-TV table is a plain Room database.
- Contact us: email support@appmetrics.studio with any request or question. We respond within 7 days.
For users in California — Relay does not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising as defined under the CCPA/CPRA. AdMob's data collection on the free tier is governed by Google's own privacy disclosures, linked above.
For users in the EU / UK — the lawful basis for the AdMob data collection on the free tier is your consent, gathered via UMP on first launch and revocable via the "Privacy options" screen. The lawful basis for on-device storage of your paired TVs and preferences is the performance of the service you installed the app for.
Children
Relay is intended for users aged 13 and older. It is not directed at children under 13 and Relay does not knowingly collect any information from children. If you believe your child under 13 has used Relay, uninstall the app to wipe local data; email us at support@appmetrics.studio if you want us to confirm no residual data exists (there won't be — nothing leaves the device from the app itself).
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top and, where the change is material, surface a notice in the app on the next launch after the change ships. Continued use after that notice constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
